Porto Airport Visa

Visiting Portugal

Portugal is part of the Schengen Visa agreement which is valid for the following group of countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Malta. The Schengen Visa, issued by any Embassy or Consulate of the above mentioned countries, allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen countries. However, entry can be refused if not all admission requirements are fulfilled upon entering the Schengen territory.

Please note that while requirements for a visa, work and/or residence permit for Portugal are the same wherever an application is made, the processing may vary from one country to another.

You should expect a processing time of at least 30 days. In some cases the waiting period could be considerably longer.

• Types of short-stay entry visas

– Airport transit visas

This visa entitles a foreign citizen to pass through the international transit area of airports without actually entering the national territory of the country concerned, during a stop-over or transfer between two stages of an international flight.

– Transit visas

This visa entitles a foreign citizen who is travelling from one Third State to another Third State to pass through a Schengen territory.

– Short-term or travel visas

This visa entitles a foreign citizen who seeks to enter the Schengen territories, for reasons other than immigration, to pay a continuous visit or several visits, the duration of which does not exceed three months in any half-year from the date of first entry. As a general rule, this visa may be issued for one or several entries.

– Short-stay or travel visas: multiple entry visas

In the case of a foreign citizen who needs to travel frequently to one or several Schengen States, for example on business, short-stay visas may be issued for several visits, provided that the total length of these visits does not exceed three months in any half-year. This multiple entry visa may be valid for one year, and in exceptional cases, for more than a year for certain categories of persons.
