Air Cargo drops 2.3% in December ANA Aeroportos de Portugal

In terms of year to date cargo presents a loss of 0.3% Air Cargo drops 2.3% in December

In December, the total amount of air cargo handled on ANA Aeroportos de Portugal’ airport network follows November tendency, decreasing  2.3% (274 tones less than the same period in 2010). Lisbon Airport seems to have escaped that tendency registering a 2.7% increment when compared with the same period last year. Contrary to pax’s statistics, Porto airport had another negative performance in terms of air cargo registering less 110 tones (-3.7%).

In terms of YTD (year to date) 2011 was very identical to 2010 although a slight loss of 0.3%. A final result of 138 thousand tones was achieved, representing only 445 tones less than 2010 (1.2 tones per day).

Lisbon Airport finishes the year growing 0.5% (+485 tones). Santa Maria also registers a similar growth (19,2% + 434 tones) as well as Flores Airport (22,4%). In the opposite direction Porto airport lost 3.4% (-1197 tones), Ponta Delgada looses 1.6% , Horta 5.6% and Faro 22.7%.

Considering the network results, Porto Airport has to be highlighted since it has a new and important route – Luanda (representing more than 1000 tones) but at the same time has watched a decrease in the main integrator airliner operation. The national carrier (TAP) as also showed a decrease in air cargo performance.

In spite of December festivities , the total o fair cargo plane-trucks (which is not reflect in the above numbers) was around 1660 tones, being the main reason the reduction  of outbound cargo in Porto airport. A total of 11 thousand tones of air cargo were transported by plane-truck during 2011.
